A Friendly start for 2019 – the PANTONE trend color

Every year, the color experts of PANTONE award the trend color of the year. While in 2018 the spiritual and dark tone Ultraviolet has been very popular, the trend color of 2019 provides warmth and coziness as well as comfort and a new energy for everyday life.

The 20th PANTONE “Color of the year” is “Living Coral”, a light and friendly, almost playful color. As the name already suggests, the coral red with golden undertones is inspired by nature. The color, which is actually at home underwater and perfectly matches its complement color blue, symbolizes warmth and comfort.
Even the experts of PANTONE are raving about their new trend color: “Just as coral reefs serve as a source of food and refuge for sea creatures, the strong but also subtle Living Coral provides us with warmth, so that we can move through our constantly changing environment with a feeling of comfort and impetus.”

We can encounter Living Coral everywhere in our daily life, whether in fashion, interior design or as packaging design.

Amidst the digital technologies and the ever-increasing share of social media in our everyday lives, we long for authenticity and real experiences. Since Living Coral is perceived as sociable and spirited, it is supposed to encourage us to engage in more casual activities. About Pantone Color of the Year

Pantone has been awarding the Color of the Year for 20 years now and thus has a major influence on product development and purchasing decisions in numerous industries. This includes the fashion industry, interior design and industrial product design, such as product packaging and graphic design.
However, the trend color is not only chosen on a whim. Trend analyses are conducted beforehand and they are carefully considered and advised. For this purpose, the trend experts are on the lookout for new color influences worldwide. Since the color of the year is not only meant to be used in a specific area, but can also influence our daily life, attention is also paid to new technologies, materials, surface structures and effects, which can have an influence on colors. At the present time, the increasing influence of social media is also taken into account. To the surprise of some people, even upcoming sports events with worldwide awareness (e.g. The Super Bowl) can determine a new trend color.
Taking all these aspects and areas into consideration, the new trend color is then finally selected.
